Other salient features include:
Model 454: weight with line shown in photo is 1.95 pounds including backing plate; line capacity as stated by Pro Gear is 350 yards of 40 pound test monofilament (reel in photo has 200 yards of 30 pound test Cortland Micron under 400 yards of 35 pound test Cortland Spectron with a 10 yard Jinkai 50 pound test leader).
Model 541: weight with line shown in photo is 1.7 pounds including backing plate; line capacity as stated by Pro Gear is 400 yards of 30 pound test monofilament (reel in photo has 115 yards of 30 pound test Cortland Micron under 350 yards of 35 pound test Cortland Spectron with a 10 yard Jinkai 50 pound test leader). This reel reminds me of the Penn Jigmaster, my favorite reel when I was growing up. However, it's like no Jigmaster I would have ever dreamed of.
Model 545: weight with line shown in photo is 1.55 pounds (with power handle not shown) including backing plate; line capacity as stated by Pro Gear is 300 yards of 30 pound test monofilament (reel in photo has 55 yards of 30 pound test Cortland Micron under 400 yards of 35 pound test Cortland Spectron with a 10 yard Jinkai 50 pound test leader). This reel is the narrow version of the model 541 and my personal favorite. It is a new breed of reel designed specifically for the thinner high test Spectra type lines - you don't need a larger reel with these new lines. You will want this reel if you like to cast a great distance and fish with Spectra line (as you can see I've fall in love!).
Price:(add $5.00 for shipping and handling via US Postal Service)
Pro Gear Model 541: $225.00
Pro Gear Model 545: $220.00
Size/weight comparison in relation to other cod reels:
The photo above shows (what I consider to be) the top three cod fishing reels. From left to right they are: the Penn 113H, the Pro Gear 454 and the Newell 540-4.6. The Newell model 540-4.6, my favorite cod reel in the Newell series of reels, weighs 1.7 pounds (filled with line - as shown above) and is one third again larger than the Pro Gear model 454. The new Penn 113H (with the lighter graphite frame), the reel that will live the longest with the most abuse, weighs 2.5 pounds filled with 50 pound test Stren line (this is the actual weight of the same reel shown in the photo above).
How to order:
The best thing to do is to send me a check for the amount of the reel plus $5.00 shipping and handling. Enclose a mailing address (US Postal Service). Specify the color and model you want. At this time, we have every reel in stock. This just means that if you want something I don't have, it will take a little longer to get. You can contact me at ttower@bunnyclark.com or call 207-646-2214 for additional information. My mailing address is:
Return Policy:
If you don't like the reel for any reason and the reel has not been used yet, return the reel (reels) to me and I will refund all your money less the shipping price.
Left Handers:
Good friend, excellent fisherman and machinest, "Lefty" Bob Nixon, has taken one of these reels apart and with a Penn 113H left handed bridge plate assembly, left handed main/pinon gear and displacement of the Pro Gear dog, has made a reel for people who are left handed! After I took a Pro Gear reel apart some months ago, I e-mailed Bob with the possibility of accomplishing this goal which he completed after he purchased a reel. This left handed reel will lack the smoothness of a Pro Gear while reeling with a load and will have the same retrieve as the Penn 113H (3.2:1) which I think is good but not as good as the Pro Gear (4:1) system. However, the casting ability will be the same as the Pro Gear (exellent and unbeatable!) and all other aspects of the Pro Gear reel will remain the same. I have all the materials in the shop to do the same thing but it will cost more if you want it done to a new reel before I ship it. It's an idea anyway. Just thought I would let you know.
